Applying in the EU? Start with Europass

Many European employers, and most public-sector ones, expect the Europass structure: a fixed order of sections and language skills stated as CEFR levels rather than words like “fluent”. Three of the templates below follow it. Europass Progress prints the formal table of listening, reading and writing levels per language; Europass Modern keeps skills in a sidebar; Europass Elegant puts the same content in one column.

Sending a cover letter with it? The cover letter templates come in the same six families, so the pair looks like one set of documents — the Europass letter is the match for all three Europass CVs.

Questions

Are these really free?
Yes. Both formats of all eight templates, for an email address, with no account and no payment. What is paid is the part a template cannot do: scanning your filled-in CV against a job ad, rewriting weak bullet points and interview practice.
Which template should I pick?
If you are applying in the EU and the employer mentions Europass, pick one of the three Europass layouts. If the system you are applying through looks old, or the industry is conservative, pick Classic. For a senior role where the skills summary should come first, pick Executive. Otherwise Modern is a reasonable default.
Will these pass an applicant tracking system?
No template can promise that, and anyone who does is guessing: every system parses differently and most employers never publish which one they use. What these layouts do is avoid the structures that are known to confuse parsers — text boxes, contact details hidden in page headers, and multi-column text. Seven of the eight are single column. Our ATS guide explains what a parser actually reads, with a worked example of our own extraction output.
What is in the file I download?
A worked example: the layout filled in with a fictional candidate, so you can see what belongs in each section and how long a bullet point should be. Replace the text with your own. The .docx is editable in Word, Google Docs and LibreOffice; the PDF is for sending.
Do I have to join the mailing list?
No. The box is optional and starts unticked, and the download works the same either way.
